This epic holiday home is perched on the side of the hill overlooking the water in a small town in the Whitsundays. The clients were heavily inspired by Mid-century architecture and wanted to create something that was both bold, yet sympathetic to the existing surroundings. The answer was a monolithic and very recognisable form, however treating this with recessive, dark colours and timber tones, to allow it to simultaneously recede into the landscape. The form also has practical purposes, as the house is structured around a double height internal living space, as the home transitions from two stories at one end down to a single storey at the other.
